Property Lawyer / Senior Legal Executive

Main Street Legal is a well-established general practice law firm serving clients across the Hutt Valley. The firm provides practical, client-focused legal services in conveyancing, property, trusts, wills, estates, and other general practice matters. The firm is seeking a capable and motivated Lawyer or Senior Legal Executive to join its team.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner to take on a varied and rewarding role with a strong focus on residential and commercial conveyancing within a general practice environment. The successful candidate will work closely with clients and colleagues across a broad range of files and will be expected to manage matters with an appropriate level of autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

The role is expected to include:

  • managing residential and commercial conveyancing files from instruction through to settlement;
  • preparing agreements for sale and purchase, Landonline/e-dealing documentation, and settlement statements;
  • advising clients on property transactions, refinancing, subdivisions, and related matters;
  • liaising with clients, banks, brokers, agents, and other professionals;
  • supporting or undertaking general practice work, including trusts, wills, enduring powers of attorney, and estates, where required;
  • maintaining accurate file management, time recording, and compliance processes;
  • ensuring compliance with professional obligations, including AML/CFT requirements. 

About You

Applications are invited from candidates who:

  • are admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, or hold a suitable qualification and experience as a Senior Legal Executive;
  • have solid experience in conveyancing within a New Zealand legal practice;
  • are confident managing files independently while recognising when collaboration is required;
  • communicate clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues;
  • have strong drafting, organisational, and file management skills;
  • are practical, reliable, and client-focused;
  • are familiar with Landonline, e-dealings, and general practice systems and processes. 

Desirable Experience

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • residential property transactions;
  • subdivisions;
  • trusts and asset planning;
  • wills and estates;
  • broader general practice work.
